Inside the huddle: Tight Ends

Inside the huddle: Tight Ends

UF Commit – TE Nick Elksnis

The State of Florida is not known for producing great tight ends. This year may be different as Florida may have at least 15 tight ends sign with D1 programs. There are at least three nationally rated tight ends with Gage Wilcox (Tampa Jefferson), Michael Trigg (Seffner Christian) and Nick Elksnis (Episcopal) leading the way. All three are top end prospects at their respected positions. We will break down all three prospects as well as some of the other tight ends in Florida who will stand out this fall.

  1. Gage Wilcox-Tampa Jefferson-6’4-215: Wilcox is very impressive in person. He makes the game look easy. He runs very good routes and is at his best after the catch. He has soft hands and can pretty much catch any pass thrown his way. He is an elite level prospect.  (Reported Offers: Committed to UF)
  2. Michael Trigg-Seffner Ch. Academy-6’4-220: Trigg is a prospect that plays both football and basketball. He is a receiver that we feel will develop into a tight end. He has good size and his speed at the tight end position makes him a miss match.  (Reported Offers: BC, Oregon State, Southern Miss, GT, UK, FAU)
  3. Nick Elksnis-Episcopal-6’6-220: Nick was a prospect we first saw earlier this spring. He stood out as Nick not only had the size to play tight end but showed very nice athletic ability. He has good hands and is going to cause linebackers all types of problems in college. (Reported Offers: Committed to UF)
  4. Gunnar Greenwald- Satellite Sr. High-6’5-220: Greenwald has the look of what you want a tight end to look like. He is a big kid that can run. He is very effective down the seam of the defense. He needs to show the ability to block.  (Reported Offers: Committed to USF)
  5. Christian Burkhalter-IMG Academy-6’5-215: Christian will be one of the premier tight ends not only in Florida but probably the entire country. He has great size. He also has good hands and runs solid routes. He will need to add another 30-35 pounds to play TE in college.  (Reported Offers: FSU, Arkansas, Indiana and Kansas)
  6. Khalil Brantley-Miami Northwestern-6’2-210: Brantley is more of an h-back than a traditional tight end. You can line him up in the backfield. You can line him up out wide as a receiver. You want to get him in matchups where he has the advantage. Get him on a linebacker and that is a battle he will win every time.  (Reported offers: Committed to Miami)
  7. Weston Wolff-Venice High School-6’5-200: Wolff is about to blow up. He has the size now he just needs to have his body fill out. He has the ability to stretch the field or go across the middle and catch the football. He is very good at catching the football. (Reported Offers: Bowling Green, Liberty, Old Dominion)
  8. Rocco Underwood-Lake Mary- 6’3-210: Rocco is a very good tight end. Where he is going to make his mark is as a long snapper. He is one of the premier long snappers in the nation. (Reported Offers: FAU, UF, Marshall, Liberty, Arkansas, Alabama, Holy Cross)
  9. Antonio Johnson-St. Thomas Aquinas-6’3-230: Johnson is a former basketball player. He is a good athlete and should make a mark on the football field this year. He has to show some consistency from game to game. If he takes the next step, look for Johnson to take his game to another level. (Reported Offers: Coastal, FIU, KU, Maryland, Rutgers, Minnesota, UCF)
  10. Aramoni Rhone-Orlando Jones-6’5-200: Jones is a prospect that will get evaluated this spring. He is a good looking athlete who can play on either side of the football. He is raw but you turn on the film and you see potential. (Reported Offers: Colorado State)
  11. Christopher Johnson-Ribault-6’2-200: Johnson is one of the more highly rated prospects in the 2021 class. He received early interest and offers from P5 programs. If he can continue to develop physically there will be many more offers coming his way. (Reported Offers: Committed to UCONN)
  12. Jacob Pasley-Sebring-6’5-235: Jacob carries a 1060 SAT. He has the GPA to match that. He has good size and runs well. He does not have great deep speed but can get behind a secondary. You better get a hand on him as Pasley is a good pass catcher. He does need to work on his blocking but that should come. (Reported Offers:  App State, FIU, FAU, Georgia State, Marshall, USF, Utah State, Yale, Tulane, UCF)
  13. Justin Cayenne-DE/TE-6’3-220: Justin, is a very good blocker. He comes off the ball and you would think he is an offensive lineman the way he blocks. He also has good football instincts. You will see him snuff plays out on defense.  (Reported Offers: Committed to UCONN)
  14. Keegan Davis-Treasure Coast-6’3-235:  Davis is a good athlete. He plays both football and basketball at the high school level. He is going to end up one of the top tight end prospects in Central Florida. He can play tight end, h-back or even defensive end at the next level. (East Tennessee State, FAMU, Georgia Southern)
  15. Taylor Jones-Sanford Seminole-6’5-220: Jones is a prospect we expect to draw interest this spring. He has D1 size and athletic ability. Now he needs to put it all together and excel on the football field. He can draw plenty of offers if he shows anything this spring.
  16. Josh Dorsainvil-Ridgeview High School -6’3-210: Josh is a prospect that has gotten overlooked because of the school he attends. He is a good high school player who is not fast enough to play receiver and may not be big enough to play tight end. He could end up an h-back in college.
