Sunday Morning QB – 9/13/2026

Week 2 of college football and there were some upsets. Oklahoma losing to Michigan after the media turned on the Wolverines a week ago. You would have thought Michigan was Northern Michigan (D2) the way the media spoke about University of Michigan. Coach Kyle Whittingham had his boys ready to play. You have Oregon going into Stillwater, Oklahoma and get beaten. Where was this Cowboys team against Tulsa a week earlier? The night ended with Ohio State giving up a 20 point lead to Texas. What a night to an early season of college football that is already having the pundits scratching their head. We will break down college football and tell you what to expect next.

REALITY – College football fans are going to have to change the way they view their teams. It is going to get more and more difficult to run the table. The college football season used to be 11 games and if you were lucky your schedule had maybe 2-3 teams who could beat you. Now, you have to watch out for every opponent. One loss even five years ago almost derailed your season. Now two and eventually three losses won’t matter. If they expand college football’s playoff to 16 or more teams you will see four loss teams in the playoffs. The games matter but one loss is no longer the end of your season. Ohio State, Oregon and Oklahoma will all have shots at redeeming themselves.

Arch Manning – Oh boy how many of those experts in the media were ready to rip him after Texas offense did nothing in the first half. I bet those guys were ready to write his football obituary. People forget Peyton Manning struggled against Florida every year. Arch put a show on especially in the 4th quarter. He is not a finished product but you can tell he wants to win. That fourth quarter was as good as you will see in a college football game.

RUN THE BALL….It is amazing how good Texas offense starting to become when they ran the ball. Why did Indiana win last year? Mendoza was great but they ran the ball. Running the ball opens up the entire offense. Texas started to have success when their two backs starting to run the ball.

Oregon – I am a fan of Dan Lanning – BUT STOP….Stop with the 4th down calls inside your own 35 on 4th down. You are down less than one score and late in the game a 4th down call cost Oregon the game. I don’t care what some stupid stat says on a sheet. Sometimes punting the ball is alright. Sometimes taking field goals in the 1st half are ok. Analytics are great until they aren’t. Oregon was 0-3 on 4th down. I am willing to bet those three calls is what cost you the game.

As for the team that beat them – Drew Mestemaker – I saw Matt Ryan on the sideline of that game….He probably thought that looked like me at Boston College. I have no idea what happened to Oklahoma State last week against Tulsa. I will say this Okie State is going to be a tough out for multiple teams.

The BIG 12 – This is going to be a very good conference this year. BYU looks like a legit playoff team. Kansas State has a good run game, very good defense and a veteran QB in Avery Johnson. Houston looks legit. Texas Tech is a favorite. Arizona State played Texas A&M tough on the road before the wheels came off. Kansas gave Missouri all they could handle. This is a good conference.

Clemson – No knock against LSU but I said it last week….Clemson was more terrible against LSU than LSU was great. Clemson is going to struggle to be over .500 this year. 7 wins would be a good season. 8 and the Clemson fans need to realize Dabo did one hell of a coaching job. Clemson is not a good football team. They lack play makers on both sides of the football. Their offensive and defensive lines are nowhere near as good as they have been.

Miami- Through two weeks they along with Indiana look like the two best teams in the country. Miami has talent across the board. They may also have the best QB in college football; Darian Mensah. He is the perfect fit for their offense. How about freshman running back Javian Mallory. The West Boca star had a great game in week 2.

USF – Nice win for the Bulls. They beat a very tough team in Army. The Black Knights were running all over USF defense. They got a late stop and won the game with less than a minute left. The Bulls are not super talented but through two games their head coach has realized get to the 4th quarter and give ourselves a chance. No one at the end of the season looks at the score of each game. They look to see if there is a W next to the game. Brian Hartline deserves credit for those two wins.

Props to the North Dakota State Bison – They joined the D1 ranks this year and are leading the Mountain West Conference with a 3-0 record. They have dominated the FCS ranks for years. Now they move up and not much of a drop off.

Best newcomer at QB – Kamario Taylor – He has 581 yards passing through two games. He has thrown 7 touchdowns and no interceptions. He is also second on the team in rushing – 145 yards (7.6 Average and 1 TD)
