Sunday Morning QB – 9/6/2026

Week one of college football is already upon us. What is crazy is every year fans get crazy about the start of the season and already there are chants of fire our coach. In some situations like LSU their fans are smiling and thinking about National Champs. Reality is that after one week the truth lies somewhere in the middle. LSU did look very good but Clemson is not the same Tigers we have seen over the past two decades. We will go over multiple things this week and there is still more to come. FSU plays SMU. You have Louisville ready to line up against Ole Miss and the Apple Cup starts today and not the final week of the season as Washington plays vs. Washington State.

We will start off with University of Miami. What an impressive win on Friday Night against Stanford. Miami looked in mid-season form. Quarterback Darian Mensah who starred at Tulane and Duke looked great for the Hurricanes. He had over 400 yards and a multi-touchdown game. Malachi Toney showed there is another South Florida receiver who feels he is the top dog in college football. Jeremiah Smith is special for the Buckeyes but Toney is going to challenge him this year. UM is my #1 team after one week of college Football.

Michigan, WOW. I do think they hired the right coach in Kyle Whitthingham. Most Michigan fans probably did not feel that way until one second was added back to the clock. Reality is outside of Bloomington, Indiana most new coaching hires have a transition of at least 1-2 seasons before you start seeing the results. Bryce Underwood stepped back and threw a Hail Mary and the prayers were answered. Michigan beat Western Michigan in a game where they looked like a major upset was going to happen. Sometimes you need a little luck the Wolverines received that yesterday.

LSU and Lane Kiffin….Yesterday is why so many college programs when they have openings want Kiffin. His team looked prepared, talented and unbeatable. LSU destroyed Clemson yesterday and what was considered a top 15 team before the game started looked like a top 3-4 afterwards. I would pump the breaks as LSU is good but Clemson is not a top 25 team this year. I really could see the Tigers only winning 6-7 maybe 8 games if everything goes right. The Tigers put the rest of the nation on notice. You could say that about BOTH TEAMS.

Clemson!!!! Dabo Swinney built Clemson into one of the premier programs in college football. He has tried to do everything the right way at Clemson. Recruit high school prospects, maintain your roster and keep guys around 4-5 years and create a culture that people will want to be a part of. Reality is we live in a microwave society that wants it NOW…..Dabo has to adapt and has not been really willing to do so. The reality is Clemson has to adapt to the way college football is run or their program will be a middle of the road team that has a ceiling of 8-9 wins a going to a second tier bowl game every year. This is the reality of what Clemson football has become.

UF Football – Was a big fan of Jon Sumrall being hired at UF. Think he is one of the best young coaches in college football. He put together an elite staff. He was able to keep most of the roster intact and add enough pieces to have a competitive football team in year one. There will be ups and downs but UF found their man. I expect this team to overachieve this year and in year 2 be very good.

Curt Cignetti – Someone and that may be plural pissed this man off at one time. He coaches like Steve Spurrier did when he first got to UF. His teams don’t just beat you, the destroy you. While IU did not play a powerhouse, they did lose a ton of players last year and looked to not miss a beat. He is an elite coach and IU has become an elite program.

Bob Chesney – What an impressive debut. UCLA played Cal who has one of the best young quarterbacks in the country. All Chesney did was put 45 up on the board and UCLA is now 1-0. They could be a team that makes life very difficult for teams in the Big 10 this year.

Outside looking in….Texas A&M, Alabama, USC, BYU, Tennessee, UTAH, Missouri, Penn State
