This comes after Mike Locksley was fired from Maryland. Dave Aranda was fired after losing to Kansas 25-24. The Bears started the season 4-3. Phil Longo (Sam Houston) was fired after starting the season 1-7 and having a 3-17 overall record while the head man. The hot seat for other coaches remain as there will continue to be upsets each week.

Who got off the hot seat: Lincoln Riley (USC)? First off the idea of Riley being on the hot seat is a joke. He had a 55-10 record at Oklahoma (37-7 in Big 12). He has a 42-20 record at USC. The Trojans beat #2 ranked Ohio State at home tonight. Riley is 97-30 over his career as a head coach. Only Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Dabo Swinney, Marcus Freeman, Dan Lanning and Curt Cignetti have better win percentages. Not only is a very good coach on the field. Off it, Riley is one of the best recruiters. Riley landed the top ranked class in 2026. DE Luke Wafle, TE Mark Bowan, WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, WR Trent Mosley have all made an impact this season. USC is a good team in a year where they are no great teams.

TRENDS – I always say that don’t go off emotions of how teams play but TRENDS. The trend of Miami at UNC has been terrible. Miami went into the UNC game as a double digit favorite and came away with a 3 point win. Reality is when these two teams play, UNC either wins or gives the Hurricanes a good game. I felt Bill B would try and take away Mali and make Miami beat them with someone else. THEY DID. Miami is a good team in a year there are no great teams. They have issues on the back end which if guys like OJ Frederique come back the secondary will get better. Miami has the talent on the defense but lack a great pass rush and they are banged up in the secondary. Right not it has not cost them, BUT WILL IT?

Shane Beamer – South Carolina – beat Tennessee, beat UF, and beat Oklahoma. South Carolina should be favored over Texas A&M, Arkansas and Clemson.

Stock Up / Stock Down:

Jeff Traylor – UTSA – His road runners are 7-1 (4-0 American Conference). Traylor has taken one of the worst programs in college football and turned them around. With Baylor open it would not shock us to see him end up in Waco. It is only a matter of time before Traylor gets a big time job.

Jake Dikert – Wake – His team last year won 9 games. They are 7-1 this year and could end up playing in the ACC Title Game. He is not only winning, his teams are dominating the competition. His stock is as high as it is going to get.

Bob Chesney –UCLA – Bruins fans will not want to hear this but there is one reality if Texas or Ohio State opens up as Ryan Day may decide to try his hand in the NFL and Texas fans and boosters get sick and tired of Sark, Chesney will be the guy both programs would have to go after.

Jamey Chadwell – Liberty: The Flames could off last season and Chadwell stock slipped. He would be my top choice if I was NC State. He coached and excelled at Coastal Carolina. He knows the area. Guy has now won at two different programs. He can run an offense. There are not many better than him. Chadwell is a very good coach.

Jason Eck- New Mexico – Eck is winning At New Mexico – Should I repeat that. Eck is winning at New Mexico. He is one of the best coaches in college football. It is only a matter of time before a big time program in one of the power conferences take a swing at him.

Will Stein – Kentucky – Uk is 7-1 and is a legit threat to make the playoffs. Go and check out Oregon offense since he left. Stein is one of the best play callers in the country.

OLD GUARD: Not sure if he would want to be a head coach again but Chip Kelly at Northwestern is the Coordinator of the year right now. He should get another shot at a head coach gig again. That is if he wants it.

Stock Down:

Bill Napier – James Madison – His team started the season 7-0. They took a 14-0 lead over Troy before losing on a field goal. Napier has his team sitting at 7-2. They still have a chance to win the Sun-Belt Conference but can’t afford to lose another game.

Heisman Trophy: Jeremiah Smith – No one else to talk about.

Games to watch out for Next Week

UCLA at Minnesota

Cincinnati vs. Houston

BYU vs. Utah

Oregon vs. Ohio State

Alabama vs. LSU

Kentucky vs. Tennessee

Georgia vs. Ole Miss

Ohio State and Texas have the two of the highest paid rosters in all of college football. Another loss by either program means they most likely won’t be in the playoffs this year. This just shows you that paying the most for a roster does not guarantee you a National Championship.

Top 25 – Good luck!!!!

Playoffs:

UGA

Miami

Indiana

Notre Dame

5.
