How can anyone be surprised by this. You have teams replacing 60-70 percent of their rosters each year. Wisconsin who was about to fire their head coach after last season decided to spend money on their roster and they are good. The problem is people act like they did not see this coming. We have been saying for the past 3-4 years if not longer that the current system of college football is not sustainable. You have fan bases that expect their teams to win and win big or its fire the head coach. Fans, boosters and those who hang around these programs better take a step back and realize that this is now a year to year thing. BYU went to UCF after beating Notre Dame and there is fake outrage. Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Houston, Iowa, USC all lost. The only surprise is those who are surprised in the first place.

What do you have….USC – I am bringing up the Trojans because they are a team that is led by Lincoln Riley. Who by the way is one of the better coaches in college football? YEAH I SAID IT. Lincoln is a very good coach and if their fan base and administration is stupid enough to fire him after the season then they should all get what they deserve. USC after last season FINALLY decided to take NIL seriously. What did they get out of it? The number one recruiting class in the country. That is a ton of promise but what most don’t understand is if you start 6-7 of those freshman and have many others contributing – guess what you go into a packed away stadium, at night you’re probably going to lose. Lincoln has some seriously talent on that roster. Fire him and let’s see how far you set the program back. USC fans are in denial and don’t realize how far behind in the current landscape their program was after last season ended.

What did we learn yesterday once again – There are no ELITE TEAMS this year. We have a bunch of good teams but there is no LSU with Joe Burrow or Miami in 2001. Each week there is a chance that a top team could lose. Miami who holds the top spot has a tough road game next week at North Carolina and goes on the road the following week at Notre Dame. Get through that two game stretch and they are likely the only unbeaten team left standing at the end. UCLA and Utah are the only other teams with no losses

Ohio State – Wow, they lost Julian Sayin for the season. Without a quarterback the odds of them winning it all took a major hit. I will say it right now, I expect USC at home to beat them next week. USC plays much better at home. They have the best player in college football in Jeremiah Smith but no one to throw the ball to him.

BYU – No surprise – Biggest win in school history last week and they came out with ZERO juice against UCF on the road. Scott Frost got his biggest win since being back in Orlando. BYU is still very good but it is tough to win on the road. It is also tough in college to get players up each week. BYU will bounce back but their margin of error just shrunk.

Indiana – I feel coach Cig is one of the best coaches if not the best coach in the country. BUT STOP IT MEDIA. I know what my eyes tell me. This Indiana team is not blowing teams out like they did the last two years. They have struggled to even beat teams. They will lose again and probably not make the playoffs. They are not one of the top 5-10 teams this year. Their coach is keeping them in the race but how long will that last?

Oregon – When you lose your OC and DC things like this tend to happen. Coach Lanning did not forget how to coach. He is still one of the better young coaches in college football. People forget that SABAN had to lose a lot at Michigan State before getting the LSU and Alabama jobs to win. For every Cig and Saban there is a Jim Harbaugh at Michigan who took time to win. Coach Lanning will get there but just not this year.

Minnesota and PJ Fleck – For those that keep thinking he is not a very good coach. WTH up. Fleck is winning at Minnesota. You have Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, USC, and Indiana before you get to Minnesota. They are never going to be in that top group. It is not easy winning there. He is probably one of if not the best coach in program history.

UCLA and Bob Chesney – All we do is win-win no matter what. UCLA found themselves a great coach. As John Malkovich says in Rounder’s, “Pay that man his money”. He is about to become a very rich man.

Hot Seat – Well three coaches got fired this week. Mike Locksley (Maryland), Dave Doeren (NC State) and today Dave Aranda (Baylor). I never understood the hype around Aranda. He was a good DC but Baylor won because they outscored everyone. Aranda never got the offensive part of coaching down. Locksley should have never been hired in the first place. Dave’s time was up. He is done with coaching.

Bill O’Brien was on the hot seat. BC sits at 4-3 but go to Duke, FSU home, at ND, vs. Syracuse and at Miami. There is a very good chance that BC finishes 4-8. Best case scenario is they win one more game and go 5-7. Either way I expect a change in Chestnut Hill after the season.

Other Programs who could make a chance – TCU, Colorado, Sam Houston State, Kennesaw State, Akron, Central Michigan, Ball State, Kent State, NIU, Arkansas State, Monroe, Southern Miss and Tulane. There are other schools who could pull the trigger but money maybe the deciding factor if they do so or not.

Who will be there in NY for the Heisman Trophy – (Malachi Toney (UM), Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State), Lance Legree (Oregon State) and Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss)?

UPSET ALERT

Wisconsin at Iowa (Big win – always a letdown the next week)

Minnesota vs. Indiana (This game is going to be close- one turnover changes everything.)

Miami at North Carolina (Miami is better team – do they look ahead to ND).

Texas State @ Boise State (This game could be last team with the ball wins.)

Playoffs – who is in, who’s out?

Miami (ACC)

Ohio State (Big 10)

UGA (SEC)

Indiana (Big 10)

Notre Dame (Indy) vs. 12.
