South Florida – QB TIME!!!!!

When it comes to football in South Florida you will hear about the skill positions, wide receiver, running backs, safeties and cornerbacks. Jeremiah Smith (Chaminade Madonna) who now stars at Ohio State is a perfect example of this. There are many other talented skill players who have come from South Florida over the years. Sony Michel (American Heritage Plantation), Dalvin Cook (Miami Central). For years South Florida has been known as a hot bed for talent. Cedrick Bailey may have finally broken the trend as he played as a freshman last year and NC State has one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC. This spring we have already seen Miami Northwestern, Chaminade, Southridge, True North and each one of these teams has a D1 quarterback. We will break them all down.

  1. Dia Bell- American Heritage Plantation: 6’2 -215: Dia is the son of Raja Bell who played for the Miami Heat. He has been on the radar since his 8th grade year. I don’t believe there is a quarterback over the 4-5 years make a bigger jump in size, arm strength and overall ability than Dia. He can make all the throws. He does a good job of anticipating his throws. Bell is rated as a five star talent on most recruiting sites and is the number one overall prospect at his position in Florida. Bell is committed to the University of Florida. (Committed to Texas)
  • Michael Clayton- Miami Edison: 6’3-200: Clayton transferred down from Orlando, FL. He has the size and arm strength. If he can work on his completion percentage, that would be huge. He does well at pushing the ball down the field. He can also move well in the pocket. He is (Committed to University of Illinois).
  • Chance Rouston – Palm Beach Central: 6’3-200: We had the chance to watch Rouston in person this spring. He has real nice arm talent. He can make every throw asked of him. He has pretty good accuracy. You will see him push the ball down the field. He has the size that you want in a quarterback. Chance is someone we feel will draw attention this summer and fall. (Reported Offers: FAU, FIU, Georgia State, UMASS)
  • Mason Mallory –Saint Thomas Aquinas: 6’0-180: Mallory helped lead West Boca HS last year to a state title. He moved over to Saint Thomas this spring and is trying to land the starting job for the Raiders. He gives you a quarterback with some athletic ability. He also can create the big play. He just needs to be a little more consistent on the shorter throws. Mallory is someone we could see signing with a G5 program only to do really well and get offered to play the P4 level 2 years from now. (Reported Offers: Eastern Michigan, FAU, IU, James Madison, Marshall, Pittsburgh, RI, UMASS, USF)
  • Brady Palmer- Saint Thomas Aquinas: 6’2-205: Palmer moved down from Chicago is one of three D1 quarterbacks on Saint Thomas roster. He has a strong arm. You can watch him throw and the ball comes out of his hand different then some of the other signal callers in South Florida. He can push the ball down the field. He just needs to work on consistency from throw to throw. (Reported Offers: Akron, Ball State, Bryant, Dartmouth, Illinois State, Miami Ohio, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa)
  • Jayden Torres: Cardinal Gibbons: 6’1-190: Torres plays in an Air Raid offense. He should put up monster numbers this year. He is accurate throwing the football. He can lead his receivers up the field. He has the ability to throw the ball all over the field. He is under the radar for quarterbacks in the state of Florida. (Reported Offers: Eastern Michigan)

The Young Guns…..

Class of 2027

  1. Zacy Katz-True North: 6’2-190: Katz has been on the radar since he was in 8th grade and he led True North to within one game of the state title. All roads lead through Chaminade. He has a nice arm. He can throw receivers open. He has good anticipation. Katz is one of the best young quarterbacks in South Florida. He will draw plenty of attention heading into next season.
  • James Perrone: Southridge: 6’2-175: I have now watched James twice this spring. You could argue that James is the top quarterback in South Florida. He has a very nice arm. He throws very well. He has a compact throwing motion. His ability to push the ball down the field is quite impressive. You will see him lead his receivers. He has improved at making the right reads. James should be one of the more heavily recruited players in South Florida.
  • Champ Smith: Spanish River: 6’1-170: Smith has moved around a little. He has been at Jupiter Christian, Columbus and now has settled in at Spanish River. You turn on the film and he can keep plays alive. He can put the ball where only his receivers can come down with it. He has a good arm. He has some mobility to avoid a pass rush. It will be interesting to see where he ends up as Champ has some impressive offers. (Reported Offers: UK, Maryland, Minnesota, Ole Miss, UNC, Purdue, South Carolina, Syracuse, EKU, Charlotte, Arkansas)
  • Jake Spaeder: West Broward: 6’2-200: Jack moves over from Monarch High School. If he played for West Broward last year they may have went to the state finals. He has a good arm. He just needs to be a little more consistent from play to play. He does a good job of pushing the ball down the field. We feel the move to West Broward should pay off. (Reported Offers: Akron, Georgia State)
  • Kingston Rust: Columbus: 6’3-200: Rust is a bigger quarterback. He already looks like he has the size to play in college. He has a good arm. He is still adjusting to Florida football. We feel that with him playing at Columbus this year, Rust will start to get more comfortable. He has the tools to be a good player. Rust will be on a Columbus team who will have a shot at a state title. (Reported Offers: App State, FAU)
  • Max Griner: Royal Palm Beach: 6’2-180: Griner reminds me of Matt Grothe who played at USF. He was a lanky quarterback with a pretty good arm. Griner is much underrated. He is someone that we could easily see going to a smaller program and being very productive. He just needs the opportunity. (Reported Offers: Bowling Green)
  • Kai Moore: Miami Norland: 6’1-180: Moore is someone that could really blow up this season. He has patiently waited his turn. If Norland is a surprise team this season it will be Moore who is the reason why. He plays with a ton of composure. He is able to get the ball in his play maker’s hands. (Reported Offers: FAU)
  • Leon Strawder: Miami Northwestern: 6’1-210: All he did last year was lead Northwestern back to the promise land. Strawder is another player who just does not get enough credit. He can push the ball down the field. We would like to see him improve at throwing the 10-15 yard routes. He can throw deep. (Reported Offers: Warner, Wofford)

Class of 2028-2029

  • Neimann Lawrence: Miami Northwestern: 6’2-180: Lawrence could end up one of the very best quarterbacks to ever come from South Florida. He has next level talent. Lawrence has the arm to make every throw. He is accurate throwing the ball. He is able to lead his receivers up the field. He does a very good job of finding the open spot on defense. Here is a kid we feel will have every offer in the country.
  • Othniel Rhoden: American Heritage Plantation: 6’0-190: He sits behind Dia Bell but I have seen him throw and Rhoden has some tools to work with. He is only going to be a 9th grader this fall. Keep an eye on Rhoden as he may end up one of the best QB’s in his class.
