NSD Is here!!!! Miami Hurricanes Part 1

National Signing Day used to be the first Wednesday in February. That is no longer the case as the college football calendar continues to change. High School prospects from across the country can now sign with colleges on December 3rd. We will break down the classes of FSU, Miami, UF as well as the USF and UCF. This first round of recruiting will just be the start of this cycle as the portal will open soon as well as other players will sign in February. We like to judge classes based on balance. Did your school recruit and land prospects at each position. If you have 5 receivers but only one offensive lineman that should really affect your overall class grade in our opinion. Let’s see what each school did…..
Miami
QB Dereon Coleman -(Orlando Jones) 6’0-170 – Grade B+) Coleman is one of the premier quarterbacks in Florida if not the country. He is not real big but Coleman can flat out play. Last year he led his team to the state Finals. He may do the same in 2025. He has a good arm. He is accurate with the football. You will see him throw guys open. Coleman can also beat you with his legs. Grade B+
RB Javian Mallory – (West Boca) 6’0-210 – The top two backs all season in Florida were Derreck Cooper and Javian Mallory. Mallory is a big, bruising back that is going to wear a defense down. He can also catch the ball out of the backfield. He has pretty good speed and quickness as well. (Grade A)
WR Milan Parrish (Welsh Jesuit) 6’5 205, Tyran Evans (Hough) 6’4-200, Vance Spafford (Mission Viejo) 5’10-175, Somourian Wingo (St. Augustine) 6’2-180 -Spafford is one of the best slot receivers in the country. He has the ability to stretch the field. He is a speedster. Get him in the open field and he can score. Wingo is one of the top outside receivers in Florida. He gives you some size on the outside. Parrish and Evans also provide great size.
TE Gavin Mueller (South Elgin) 6’5-255, Isarel Briggs (Clovis HS) 6’5-200 -Mario likes to run the ball. The way to set the edge is to have tight ends who can block. Both Mueller and Briggs should excel at that part of the game. Both can also help out in the passing game.
OL Jackson Cantwell (Nixa HS) 6’7-325, Canon Pickett (Tampa Bay Tech HS) 6’4-320, JJ Sparks (The Bolles School) 6’3-300, Joel Ervin (Fort Myers) 6’5-330, Ben Congdon (Tuscarawas Valley) 6’7-290, Rhys Woodrow (Orlando Boone) 6’4 310 Once again Mario made the offensive line a priority in recruiting. The Hurricanes will continue to have success on the field if they bring in offensive line classes like this. Cantwell is the crown jewel. He could be a Day 1 starter. Pickett gives Miami a big bodied lineman who could play tackle or kick into guard. Ervin is all about potential. If he puts it all together you may have another future pro on your hands. Sparks, Woodrow add quality depth to the class as does Ben Congdon. (Grade A+)
DE Jordan Campbell (Miami Northwestern) 6’3-220, De’Anthony Lafayette 6’1-230, Asharri Charles (Venice) 6’2-230, Frederick Sainteus (St John Neumann) 6’4-270- Campbell is a hybrid Edge rusher/outside linebacker. He can put pressure on the quarterback. We also feel he is a good enough athlete to possibly play outside linebacker. He should fit well in Miami’s defensive scheme. Charles style of play is similar to Campbell. He is another guy you can line up anywhere on the defensive side of the football. Early on Lafayette did not have much attention. We watched his film and felt he was a top defensive end in Florida. He can rush the passer. Miami is hoping they have another Rueben Bain on their hands. Sainteus is a guy who can play outside on run downs and kick inside to tackle to put pressure on the quarterback on passing downs. (Grade B)
DT Keshawn Stancil (Clayton HS), Logan Nagle (DePaul Catholic) 6’5-280, Isaac Chukwurak (Caravel Academy) 6’2-270, Tyson Bacon (Hoover HS) 6’3-270 – Had the opportunity to watch Stancil in person at a football camp two years ago. He is big and powerful. He can be tough to run against as well. We expect him to be a contributor by year two in the program. Miami continues to add Depth with the additions of Nagle, Chuckwurak and Bacon. (Grade B)
LB Justin Edwards (Orlando Edgewater) 6’1-200 -Edwards is probably a special team’s player to start his career at Miami. He has produced at the high school level. With players like Campbell and Charles there is always a chance one of them ends up here. You would have liked to seen them bring in one more backer. There is always time to upgrade this position. (Grade C)
S Cortez Redding (Jonesboro HS) 6’0-175, JJ Dunnigan (Manhattan HS) 6’2-190 – Miami went outside the state of Florida for safeties. Redding is one of the best safety prospects in Georgia. Dunningham is from the state of Kansas. They will produce some talented players from time to time.
CB Camdin Portis (Myers Park) 5’11-170, Jaleen Waters (Armwood) 6’1-180, Brody Jennings (Mandarin HS) 6’1-175, Jontavius Wyman (Jonesboro HS) 5’11-170 – Portis, Waters and Jennings give Miami a very impressive trio of corners. Each brings a different skill set. They all have length which is very important.
