Rankings – Top Ten Florida
- Saint Thomas Aquinas: The Raiders have no dismantled Cardinal Mooney, Western Sr. High and Desoto High School out of (Texas). They did not just beat Desoto, they dominated them from the first drive of the game. Their run game was dominant. They also got a great performance out of their defensive line lead by Wyatt Smith who is committed to Ohio State.
- Christopher Columbus: The Explorers over the past few years have made their impact in the state of Florida. They really were never known for being a National Power. They faced #1 Ranked Bishop Gorman yesterday and won the biggest game in School History. Everyone is talking about the performance of their star player Amir Sears. His performance will go down as legendary as he caught two touchdowns and had three interceptions. While his performance was impressive the guy throwing the football Kai Moore was also impressive. The NIU commitment showed great command of the offense. He was able to throw receivers open. He took some big shots and still got the ball off. Columbus know has a showdown with Saint Thomas Aquinas next.
- IMG Academy: IMG is a National Power. Problem is they are not in a district, they don’t play Saint Thomas or Columbus and in the end that hurts them in my Rankings. They are loaded with top ranked players all over their roster. That being said Columbus and Saint Thomas have signature wins.
- West Boca: They were off this week but their win over American Heritage looks that much more impressive now. West Boca is a sound football team who is also well coached. We expect them to be in the conversation of a top ten all season long.
- Carol City: Here is a team that is finding ways to win. It is win and move on. They have yet to have that dominant win like Aquinas did yesterday or Columbus. This team will get their chances to showcase their talents in the coming weeks.
- Miami Central: The Rockets are lurking. They traveled to California last week and had a nice win. Led by Quarterback James Perrone, Miami Central is legit. This is a team that will continue to get overlooked. We will wait and see where they finish in the final rankings as they have some big games coming up.
- Lakeland: Always known as a great program, Lakeland gets their big match-up next week against Venice HS. That is a game where they can put themselves right in the mix for a top five ranking with a win. Venice looks like they are legit and a win by them could put them in the top ten. This is one of the better match-ups in week 3.
- Chaminade: While they lost to Sierra Canyons, we still have the Lions ranked in the top ten. They are too talented of a team to be left out after a loss to a Nationally Rated team. Chaminade has a lot of new parts this year on offense. The lack of consistency from one week to the next is what stands out most. We expect quarterback Brady Quinn to bounce back after a subpar performance for him.
- Miami Palmetto: The Panthers are 2-0 and have looked good in all three games they have played which includes their kick-off classic in a win over Arch-bishop McCarthy. The Panthers are led by Jeremiah Larsen. He is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the country.
- Deland- the Bulldogs played St. Frances which is one of the top five teams in the nation and lost 49-35. While they lost the fact that they gave St. Frances a game is what shows they are a top ten team in Florida. They were supposed to get blown out. Coach Darlington is one of the best coaches in Florida and he once again has shown why.
