Iowa Commit Jake Rudock!
When Jake Rudock took over last season for Saint Thomas most had no idea what he could do for the Raiders. Once the season got started he led Saint Thomas offense to one of the highest scoring units to ever coming through their program. Rudock showed some impressive skills as a quarterback and that led to schools like Wisconsin and Iowa to offering him. As we enter the 2010 season Rudock made an early commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes. We have seen him perform at camps, combines and live in games and came away with the same impression every time, Jake is pretty darn good.
What ESS likes about Jake: He is a leader. Jake understands that the quarterback position is one of the most important on a football team. Knowing that he makes sure to take his role as a leader very serious. He works hard on and off the field and this makes him one of the more complete quarterbacks in Florida. He understands what defenses are trying to throw at him. Jake can read a defense and make the right read most of the time. He also has the ability to get the ball in his play maker’s hands. While he does not have the great physical skills of some of the other top quarterbacks, Jake makes up for that with the mental part of his game. Jake is a good enough athlete that defenses need to respect him when all else breaks down and he takes off and runs.
What Jake needs to work on: While he has a good arm it not great. This is not a big problem because Jake is accurate and gets the balls to his receivers quickly before defensive backs can break on the football. He has a good sense to where to throw the ball. He also needs to get bigger and stronger at the next level to handle the physical pounding that comes with playing D1 football. This is even truer with Jake going into the Big Ten where everyone on both sides of the football will be big.
Final Thoughts: When it comes to recruiting many times it comes down to what the right fit is for a prospect. Jake made the right decision. He is going to a school that has produced some of the best offensive linemen year in and year out. So right from the start Jake will never feel uncomfortable in the pocket playing for the Hawkeyes. He will be surrounding by some impressive lines while at Iowa. What he also will find out at Iowa is that they do a good job at coaching up their quarterbacks. Jake will get a chance to play to his strengths as a quarterback. At the end of the day it will not surprise us to see him have a very productive career in college
