Montgomery trying to make name for himself!

Montgomery trying to make name for himself!

This time last year Badger Sports put on their annual 7-on-7 event. One of the names that really stood out was Nick Waisome. The talented cornerback showcased his skills before scouts from recruiting networks from across the nation. This year Waisome continued to impress as he went against the top receivers in Florida and did not back down. Waisome is not the only prospect from South Lake that recruiters should take notice of. His teammate Jordan Montgomery is another player who has already received interest from college coaches from all over the country. These are just two of the well known prospects from South Lake. ESS will breakdown both players and gives insight to what to watch for in 2010.

The first of the two prospects we will feature is Nick Waisome. The talented cornerback has made a name for himself the past two seasons. This past weekend he showed all in attendance that covering some of the top receivers was not a big deal. He went up against receivers like Kelvin Benjamin. The Glades Central star had over 5 inches in height over Waisome and he did not back down. He knocked down a game winning catch that Benjamin tried to haul in. What Waisome lacks in size (5′9), he more then makes up with desire. He is not afraid to go up against bigger and more physical receivers then himself. He does a good job of staying the hip pocket of the receiver opposite him and Waisome then has the athletic ability to out jump anyone he faces. His ability to flip his hips and stay with receivers is what scouts like about him. Not only is Waisome a talented cornerback but his ability to make big plays on offense and special teams has caught the eyes of scouts. (Highlight Video)

While Waisome gets the entire pub this year it is his teammate that should not get overlooked. Jordan Montgomery also plays in South Lake secondary but we suspect that he may make a move to linebacker in college. He already has the size (6′1). Now he just needs to put on the weight to play linebacker (190). What we like about Montgomery is he can go back into coverage. If he is not going back into pass coverage then coming up and playing the run is not that big a deal for him. He is versatile enough to play more then one position in college. This is always a good thing because if safety does not work out there is the possibility that a move to linebacker could happen. Montgomery brings enough to the table both physically and mentally to get recruited by D1 programs. (Highlight Video)

Final Thoughts: As South Lake continues to produce more and more talent each year it continues to draw the attention of college scouts. Three years ago it was Jeff Demps, then the following year it was Jonathan Harrison. Now you have both Waisome and Montgomery. In 2012 it will be Pat Harris name that recruiting experts will be talking about. We know one thing ESS will continue to follow what is happening at this school north of Orlando.

Keep an eye out on 2012 receiver Patrick Harris!
