Dungy on the rise!
Dungy on the rise!

When ESS went to the USF Sling and Shoot two summers ago one name that popped up on the radar screen was Eric Dungy. The two way standout was a raw prospect but one with nice upside. He was still getting used to the speed and quickness of Florida football. Two years later the talented athlete is starting to draw interest from BCS programs. ESS will breakdown the Tampa Plant prospect and give you are reason for his transition from a potential D1 prospect to possibly on the verge of signing with a BCS school.

What you have to like: Here is a kid that has worked hard on and off the field to become a very good football player. His play in the state title game this year showed you why so many teams have come on late for the Tampa Plant Star. He showed the ability to make plays on both sides of the football. Dungy improved his speed, quickness and overall strength over the past two seasons. His play on the football field has improved because of his work ethic. With his improved play on the field, Dungy confidence has grown as well. He knows believes he can play with the Florida players which early on were not the case.

What he needs to work on: Eric still needs to get bigger and stronger. His overall strength has improved the past two years but to make it at the BCS level, Dungy strength will need to improve. This should not be a problem but just something that needs to be work on. Adding weight to his frame is also something Eric needs to do. Right now he is in the 170 pound range. We would like to see him get in the 185-190 pound range. Once at that weight he will be able to handle coming up and playing in run support.

Final Thoughts: As we said before there may not be a more improved prospect in the State of Florida. Eric two years ago was probably a solid D1-FCS prospect. Nothing wrong with that but in less then a year is now getting offered by BCS programs. That is a testament to his hard work on and off the field to become a BCS prospect. Look for Dungy to sign a Letter of Intent with a BCS school early in Feb.
