Is Driskel one of top qb's in Florida for 2011?

ESS likes to bring the fans the top prospects from across the state of Florida. Today we will look at one of the lesser known prospects for the class of 2011 Jeff Driskel. With so many talented quarterbacks next year, Teddy Bridgewater (Miami Northwestern), Jarrard Randall (Chaminade), Jake Ruddock (Saint Thomas Aquinas), Rakheem Coto (Miami Central), Immoni Carswell (Plantation), Jacoby Brissett (Dwyer) and Kevin Sousa (Lake Nona) one name that has not been mentioned much is Jeff Driskel of Hagerty High.

What we like about Driskel: He has great size (6′3 1/2-225). He is a big quarterback. What is crazy is Driskel will end up a 240-250 pound quarterback one day. He moves extremely well for a big quarterback. His ability to beat a defense with his legs along with his arm is what college recruiters will like. He can make all the throws asked of him. Driskel is accurate throwing from both the pocket and on the run. When you watch his film you will see Driskel throw the ball on the run very well. This is not something a ton of quarterbacks are able to do.

What Driskel needs to work on: With him entering his final season you would like to see him put some more wins on the scoreboard. He does not have a ton of talent around him but college coaches want to see quarterbacks that have led their teams to winning records. When a quarterback has had trouble leading his team to wins then there is some concerns. He needs to learn how to play from under center. With the way high school offenses are going it makes it more difficult each passing year to judge quarterbacks. Driskel takes very few if any snaps from under center. Teams that like to run a pro style offense are going to have to teach Driskel how to drop back from center. This is something he can learn how to do but you still want to see Driskel do it.

Final Thoughts: There is a good chance that Driskel ends up the top quarterback in the class of 2011. He is very talented and when you watch his film it is evident that Driskel has the physical skills to be a big time quarterback in college. Now can he put it all together and become an elite quarterback. That is a question that Driskel will need to answer. We feel that there is enough to work with that Driskel will get the job done in 2010.
