Carol City Celebrating win over American!

Carol City Celebrating win over American!

When Carol City faced American on Friday night the game was for a spot in the playoffs. Most felt that Carol City would win the game but it was not decided until the 2nd half. The Chiefs went back to what has won them so many games in the past and that’s their running game. Led by Sophomore Ernest Freeman and Bramond Snell they Chiefs were able to put the game away in the 4th quarter. Quarterback Devonte Mathis did enough in the game to keep the American defense off balance.

So what is next for Carol City, they will get ready for the playoffs in two weeks. It would not surprise us to see them have a rematch again vs. their neighborhood rival Miramar. These two schools faced off last season and if not for a late game drive by Eugene Smith they may have gotten to the third round. Carol City has a very young team but that should not stop them from making a run in the playoffs. It will be interested to see how they respond if they are fortunate enough to have a rematch with Miramar.

For American they finish the season after a disappointing loss to Carol City. Their defense played very well led by defensive lineman God Power Offer and Rene Lozano. These two did all they could to keep Carol City from winning the game. The offense for American just could not get anything going. With less then five minutes left in the game they changed quarterbacks and went with Abe Coleman. The sophomore just could not make enough plays to overcome the 14-0 deficit. American showed enough in this game to make you believe that the near future may be bright. They have some nice players coming back next year. Now they just need to improve the offense.

Final Thoughts: One thing is for certain this Carol City team is very young and talented. Their starting two running backs are a freshman Bramond Snell and a sophomore Ernest Freeman. Their other running back Donnie Miles is also a freshman. They will return their quarterback Devonte Mathis again next year. With this fire power on offense and a solid defense returning Carol City may be returning to the map next year. They can make some noise this year in the playoffs but this is a team built for the future. Keep an eye on the Chiefs because they will be very exciting to watch over the next two years.
