Dwight Jackson led defense with 3 sacks!

Dwight Jackson led defense with 3 sacks!

With fans behind the Miami Central bench saying don’t disappoint us again they finally pulled off the biggest win in school history. The Rockets fell behind 16-0 in the first half. The game was taking on the look of many other Rocket losses versus Northwestern. That all changed when the Rockets raced down the field and cut the score down to 16-8. With about 6 minutes left in the half Central scored again and made it 16-16. Going into halftime the rockets had to feel real good about their chances as they were going to get the ball first. The Rockets came out in the second half and completely dominated Northwestern as they scored twice and put the game away 29-16. The Bulls had one last chance to come back but came up short near the Rockets goal-line. The rockets took the ball down the field as they milked the rest of the clock away and the players and the community started to celebrate.

Chaminade led by Jarrard Randall pull off upset!

When the first round started there were two teams that felt they had a very good chance at repeating as State Champions. Those two teams would be Pahokee who was going for their 6th crown in 7 seasons and North Florida Christian. They were two of the favorites to make it to Orlando this year. When the dust settled on the first weekend of the playoffs both Pahokee and North Florida Christian were both upset. Not only were these two teams sent packing for the rest of the playoffs so were FAMU, Walton, Tampa Jesuit, Madison County, Riverdale, Winter Haven, Venice, First Coast, Orange Park and Deerfield Beach. We will take a look at some of the upsets of round one and what to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Kaleb Johnson and his teammate Casey Turner come up short against Tallahassee Lincoln!

ESS has travelled around the state of Florida to give high school football fans a look at schools from across the state. Last night we were on hand to witness one of the premier programs in the state of Florida (Lincoln Trojans) take on Jacksonville Ed White. Both teams fought hard and the game was within reach for late in the 4th quarter for Ed White trailing by only a touchdown. Not until quarterback Ryan White scored on a nice touchdown run was the game finally over. Lincoln prevailed behind impressive performances by both White and linebacker Mark Wilson. Ed White got nice performances by Jacobi Green and Casey Turner. ESS breaks down both teams and gives you insight into their top prospects.

Stephen Morris leads Pace to win over Cardinal Gibbons!

Stephen Morris leads Pace to win over Cardinal Gibbons!

At 3pm ESS went over to Cardinal Gibbons to watch them face Miami Pace. Early on it looked like Gibbons would run away with the game. They took an early 7-0 lead. On the following possession they were knocking on the door again before a fumble near the end-zone was returned all the way back for touchdown by Normando Harris. It went from a possible 14-0 lead to a tied game. After that turnover it was all Miami Pace as they scored on two more defensive touchdowns and won the game 48-13. In our second game of the Double header ESS went down to South Broward and watched them face Piper. This was a game between a Piper team who was 3-6 going against South Broward would was one win away from their best season in a decade at 8-1. On the first play from scrimmage by South Broward’s offense it was Kevin Grooms who got them on the score board quickly with a 63 yard touchdown. South Broward scored three more times to win the game going away 28-0. ESS will break down both games and tell you what to look for the next few weeks.

Inside the Huddle: Orville Reynolds makes a name for himself!

Orville Reynolds-2011

Through 9 weeks of the football season Reynolds has rushed for over 1100 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 7.28 yards/carry is one of the best in Broward County this season. Reynolds transferred into Douglas this past off-season from Cardinal Gibbons High. Reynolds is one of the lone bright spots on a Douglas offense that has been inconsistent all season long. Look for Reynolds to be one of the top rated junior prospects in Broward County. Not only does Reynolds get it done on the field, he also gets it done off the field. Reynolds carries over a 4.0 GPA. We expect him to receive plenty of interest during spring football as his offer sheet continues to grown.

Carol City Celebrating win over American!

Carol City Celebrating win over American!

When Carol City faced American on Friday night the game was for a spot in the playoffs. Most felt that Carol City would win the game but it was not decided until the 2nd half. The Chiefs went back to what has won them so many games in the past and that’s their running game. Led by Sophomore Ernest Freeman and Bramond Snell they Chiefs were able to put the game away in the 4th quarter. Quarterback Devonte Mathis did enough in the game to keep the American defense off balance.

Sr Joseph Harmon helped shut down Cardinal Gibbons HS to win District Crown!

Both Heritage and Gibbons came into this game with identical 6-2 records. They also had the same thing to play for last night and that was a district crown. When Heritage got the ball first they made a statement as Sony Michel went 80-yards off the right side of the line for a touchdown. The scoring did not stop as Heritage went into half time with a 27-7 lead. In the 2nd half Gibbons came out and scored 13 straight to bring the game within a touchdown. It would not be enough as Heritage held off Gibbons late rally to win 36-27.

Baxter is a fast rising star for the class of 2011!

Baxter is a fast rising star for the class of 2011!

When it comes to producing talent Homestead has had some great players come through their program. University of Miami linebacker and current coach Michael Barrow played at Homestead. Most recently UCF receiver AJ Guyton and UM defensive end Marcus Robinson walked the halls at Homestead. Up next for Homestead is Keith Baxter. He plays cornerback for the Broncos and should be one of the best in Dade County next season. The talented defensive back also runs track for the 4×100 team. He is a great athlete that many college coaches will take a look at this spring. Here is ESS breakdown of Baxter.
