Preseason: Manatee vs. Plant

Sunday, August 30th, 2009
Junior RB/LB

The game of the night in the Tampa Bay area was defending state champion Plant high school against emerging Bradenton Manatee.  The game was played in South Tampa at Dad’s Stadium where the Panthers usually have a strong home-field advantage with their near sell-out crowds at every homegame.  However Manatee QB Brion Carnes and WR Ace Sanders didn’t allow the home crowd to even take their seats before Manatee put 7 on the scoreboard.

Kick Off Classic: Pompano Ely vs. Miami Central

Saturday, August 29th, 2009
Gainer seen here with his offensive line that got the job done: Gainer scored three first half touchdowns!

Gainer seen here with his offensive line that got the job done: Gainer scored three first half touchdowns!

When Head Coach Telly Lockette looks at tonight’s game film, he will be happy that not only did Miami Central win in a blow-out they did not play one of their better games. After an hour delay to start the ball game, Miami Central came out flat. They had four possessions in the red-zone in the first half and only came away with 14 points. They led 21-6 going into the half but you felt like the Rockets could have played much better. In the 2nd-half they came out more focused and put the game away. After scoring on multiple occasions the Rockets ended the game with a 46-6 victory over Pompano Ely. While the win looked impressive on the scoreboard it is a game that Coach Lockette would soon to forget. These are the types of games that make the head coach scratch his head. There is a ton of talent on Miami Central roster but the focus must remain throughout each game and the upcoming season for Central to make it to Orlando and win the State Championship game. For their opposition tonight (Pompano Ely) this was a game that their coaches would rather move forward from. They had their opportunities to keep the game close in the 1st half but it was mental mistakes and turnovers that cost them the game. Elite Scouting will give you a breakdown of all the prospects from both teams that stood out.

#7 QB Dylan Parker, #4 WR Pat Harris, #48 LB Jeff Luc and #49 LB Eric Alvarez

Boyd Anderson who is projected to be one of the premier teams in 5A this year went all the way up to Ft. Pierce to play Treasure coast. The Titans are led by All-American linebacker Jeff Luc. Early on in the contest it looked as if the Titans would win with ease. The Titans took an 18-7 lead into half-time. In the 2nd-half Boyd Anderson made some adjustments on both sides of the football and won the game 20-18. It was a 3-yard run by Marcus Thompson that put the Cobras ahead for good. ESS was there to witness this great game and will breakdown both teams.

Wide Receivers listening to their coach!

Wide Receivers listening to their coach!

What was supposed to be a kick-off classic ended up being a pretty decisive win for Cardinal Gibbons. They scored early and often as they beat South Plantation 30-7. Cardinal Gibbons had solid performances on both sides of the football. It did not matter if it was Shawn Corker or Daryeon Chance. The defense also came up with some impressive performances as well. For South Plantation it was not a night to remember. While they did not play one of their better games a few guys did standout. ESS will breakdown both teams and try and figure where they go from here.

Hollywood Hills looks to finally break out!

Hollywood Hills looks to finally break out!

16-4A has two schools from Broward County that have had some history in Hollywood Hills and Stranahan. Hollywood Hills will most likely be the favorite to win this district. Don’t sleep on Stranahan who played very well in their spring game against Hialeah High. Forest Hill will try and compete for a playoff spot. Look for Hollywood Hills to take advantage of not have to face Saint Thomas Aquinas in 2009.

In class 14-3A Archbishop McCarthy, Pembroke Pines Charter, Ft Lauderdale, Hallandale and Olympic Heights will battle it out. This is a wide-open district that could go in any direction.

ESS teams up with Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald to break down these two districts.

Does Alvarez lead Belen to 15-3A Crown?

Does Alvarez lead Belen to 15-3A Crown?

15-3A is a new district that will have two very talented teams in Norland and Belen. Will Mater Academy and two brand new football programs Westland High and Hialeah Gardens have a shot to unseat Belen or Norland. Larry Blustein (ESS and Miami-Herald), Manny Navarro (Miami Herald), Andre Fernandez (Miami Herald) and Charles Fishbein of ESS break down this district and give you are predictions and outstanding performers. Look for Belen and Norland to fight it out for the district crown.

In class 16-3A it will be a nice mix of teams. Look for Miami Edison, Key West, Jackson and Booker T to fight it out in what will most likely be the most competitive district in South Florida. You have three teams in Edison, Jackson and Booker T that all have a shot at winning the district. What will hurt the last team in the district (Key West) has to travel so far to play some pretty stacked football teams.

District 12-6A-Who do you like Carol City or North Miami Beach?

District 12-6a looks to be very good this upcoming season. Carol City comes off an impressive season a year ago. They will battle it out with North Miami Beach who should bounce back strong this upcoming season. Will there be a sleeper team in this district? If so with it be the team from North Miami high school. They are led by Darryl Bethune who has been coaching in Dade County for as long as we could remember. He looks to turn the corner for North Miami. The rest of the district is led by Krop and Goleman High. Check out what our experts feel will happen in this ultra -competitive district.
