The final score between Boyd Anderson vs. Pahokee was 14-13 in favor of the Blue Devils. What both teams showed the other night was a ton of talent not only for the class of 2010 but the classes of 2011 and 2012. Elite will give you an in-depth breakdown of both teams and what we should look for this upcoming season.
With Pahokee it is business as usual. They came out a continued their quest of being one of the best high school football programs in the nation. They are looking to win another state championship this upcoming season. With the addition of Fred Pickett-wr (Glades Central) and Chris Dunkley (Royal Palm Beach) there is no telling how good this team will be.
With those two coming in over the summer lets take a look at the rest of the Pahokee football team. The prospect that really caught our eye the other night for Pahokee was TE/LB Zach Allen. He shows great athleticism on both sides of the football. Whether making a tough catch or chasing down a ball carrier there is one thing that stands out with Allen, he can play the game of football. You hear about players like D’Joshua Johnson, Richard Ash, Morrill Noel, it is Allen that needs some of that hype thrown his way. The talented two-way standout has offers from some of the best programs in the nation. It was thought the talented prospect would pull the trigger for Wake Forest this week but that may not be the case now.
Along with Allen, D’ Joshua Johnson once again put on a show. He made one play where Johnson juked out a defender, leaped over another one and picked up a nice game. Johnson just has “IT” for a football player. He just understands the game and gives you the big play threat every time the football is in his hands.
The one that will lead Pahokee passing attack this year is quarterback Emanuel Perez. He played some last year until D’Joshua Johnson took over. When Dunkley and Fred Pickett come in this fall, Perez will have the best stable of receivers to throw to in the nation. He may break passing records this year with the players that surround him. Perez is not asked to do much. He just gets the ball in his play makers hands.
On the defensive side of the football Pahokee is strong up front. They will rely on Richard Ash, Antonio Ford and Doral Willis. Of the entire lineman the other night the toughest to block was Willis. He is not real tall but Willis is tough to move off the line. He was constantly getting into the Boyd Anderson backfield and being disruptive.
Senior defensive back Morrill Noel was also stout in the game. He did not let any big plays get behind him and Noel showed that coming up and playing the run is strength in his game.
Other players that should not be overlooked this season are Jeff Daverne (2010-CB); Shaquille White (2012-wr), Joe Eason (2011-DB) Earnquavion Robinson (2011-Ath.) and Offensive line Willie Bowles.
For Boyd Anderson there were plenty of stars. This team may be Coach Mark James most talented when all is said and done. They will be very young but Boyd Anderson has as much talent from top to bottom as any team in Broward County.
When you look at the Cobras secondary it will be one of the best in Florida this upcoming season. Knowing how good Saint Thomas secondary will be don’t be surprised to see Boyd Anderson being right up there with them. It starts with Harmon Brown. He had an interception in the first half and another pass break up that was almost intercepted. Brown is part of the class of 2011. For the class of 2012 look no further then Brandon Butler. The 6′0, 170 pound safety should be one of the top players at his position in 2012. The secondary was also led by Cliff Coleman. The talented senior was in on plenty of plays and showed why so many schools are started to draw interest in Coleman.
The front seven was led by Linval Williams. He had at least one quarterback sack and was in the backfield on many other occasions. He will be part of a pretty good front seven for the Cobras. He will team up with Shaun Ward who also made an impact in the game.
On offense Boyd Anderson should have a ton of play makers to work with. Demar Dorsey showed his speed and athletic ability on offense. Along with Dorsey Steven Green also made some impressive plays. Not to be outdone look for guys like Jesse York (class of 2011) to make a major impact this fall.
Some other players to keep an eye on for Boyd is Matthew Grant-DE/TE (2010), Dexter Dukes LB(2010), Brenton Newton-FB (2011), Marcus Thompson-RB/LB (2010), Victor Williams-Ath. (2011), Anderson Roberson-DB-(2011), Shaun Ward-LB (2011), Anthony Williams-WR (2011), Kent Turene-LB (2010), Kameron Davis-OL (2012) and Wendy Bellzaire-OL (2011).
Final Thoughts: Pahokee will once again be one of the top teams in Florida. Unless something crazy happens they will also be heading back to Orlando for the State Championships. This is a team that is loaded on both sides of the football and that is before they added Chris Dunkley and Fred Pickett. With those two they will start to light up the score board on a weekly basis. The only question now is who will compete with Pahokee this year.
Boyd Anderson is another talented football team. Coach Mark James has enough talent on both sides of the football to compete for a state title. Can they get over the hump and get it done in the playoffs. There have been other talented teams from Boyd Anderson to make runs in the playoffs but none this talented. I think this is a team that could surprise some this year. They are very young but it is a very talented Cobras team that will line up every week next season.
