- Texas Tech making run at top receiver in Florida
By: Elite Scouting Services Staff
When Mike Leach took over the Texas Tech program, he brought a style of football that would light up opposing teams score boards. With that type of excitement brought some pretty special players through Lubbick. One of those players was wide receiver Wes Welker. The former Red Raider now plays for the New England Patriots where he has become one of the best slot receivers in the NFL. He is not the only receiver that has made a name for himself. Michael Crabtree while not an elite receiver coming out of high school, he was able to make a name for himself at the college level. What both of these receivers brought to the Texas Tech offense was the ability to make the big play. Earlier today Tech tried to fill that void left behind from Crabtree by offering a scholarship to wide receiver Kadrone Boone. The gifted receiver from Trinity Catholic in Florida has a very similar style of play compared to Crabtree.
We had the opportunity to speak with Crabtree about his most recent offer. He was also offered by Oregon and Tennessee. Both schools are trying real hard to land that talented to wide out. Here is what Boone had to say about his offer from Texas Tech,” It’s really exciting. They had one of the best teams in the country and one of the main reasons why is because of Michal Crabtree. He is a receiver that I try and pattern my game after,” he said.
What game really helped put Kadrone Boone on the map was his performance in the state championship. If big time players step up in big time games then Boone did not dissapoint. He finished the game with over 100 yards receiving and 1 touchdown. It was his ability to get open and make big plays against Pahokee that really caught all of our eyes. So what are Boone expecations this season,” I want to help get back our team to the state championship game. We have a great opportunity to get back to the title game again,” Boone Said.
With Boone most recent offer there was a chance he would have gone to Texas Tech junior day. He was unable to do so and its his goal to get to Texas Tech this summer. He will be heavily recruited by Texas Tech as they try and get their next Michael Crabtree.
Final Thoughts: Boone has quickly become one of the elite receivers in the state of Florida this year. Along with Ivan McCartney, Ricardo Miller (Michigan Commit), Chris Dunkley and D’ Joshua Johnson, Boone is without a doubt as good as every single one of the players mention on this list. His ability to beat a defense deep or go across the middle of the field and run crossing routes is what we like so much about Boone. He is one of the most gifted receivers in the country and we feel that Boone will have a monster season. It will be interesting to see how his recruitment goes this fall.
