Rapid Reaction: American Heritage Downs Godby for 5A Title

ORLANDO — A few thoughts on American Heritage’s 38-0 win against Tallahassee Godby in the Florida Class 5A championship game.

What it means: American Heritage (12-3) won its second consecutive 5A championship and did it with relative ease. The Patriots rushed for 300 yards and did more than enough in the passing game to keep Godby (12-3) off balance. Godby never threatened to score and once sophomore running back Kyshaun Bryan opened the second half with a 93-yard touchdown run it was all over.

Stock watch: Bryan wore number 11 on the field but at times he looked like the number one that Sony Michel wore last season. Bryan finished with 156 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Senior quarterback Torrance Gibson also showed plenty of glimpses of what the future could hold for him at Ohio State. Gibson has an absolute rocket for an arm but showed nice touch on passes as he went 7-of-15 for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Finally Heritage safety Deonta Fair might be in line for more offers after leading the Patriots defense with seven tackles, two tackles for loss, an interception and a forced fumble. Currently FAU is Fair’s only offer but this film could yield more.

Godby Blues: Junior quarterback Darius Bradwell wanted to prove his worth as a QB on Friday and instead struggled going 6-of-12 for 17 yards and two interceptions. He did rush for 68 yards and definitely has a place on the football field at the next level but it might be at wide receiver.
