Corker sporting Texas Tech Gear!

By: Elite Scouting Services Staff.

From the first time Elite Scouting Services saw Shawn Corker play they knew he had the potential to be a big time college football receiver. Today his dreams came true as Shawn Corker committed to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders success on the football field last season allowed them to go national in recruiting. Corker is one of the first big time prospects they have pulled from Florida.

Elite Scouting covered his commitment at Cardinal Gibbons as he gave his pledge to coach Mike Leach and the Red Raiders coaching staff. We spoke to Corker about his commitment to Texas Tech and hear is what he had to say about it,” It was the best decision I could make. Out of all the schools I visited it stood out the most,” he said.

Corker was recruited by coach Lincoln Riley. He felt the receivers coach was not only a great coach but one that Shawn could relate to,” Coach Riley is great. He is a very good coach and I feel that my skills will improve greatly with him watching over me the next four years. He would discuss with me what I needed to work on. Coach Riley felt if I worked on the little things that my game would improve,” Shawn Said.

Corker had the chance to break the news to Coach Mike Leach. What did the Tech head coach have to say,” He was very excited about me committing to them. He was fired up. He told us that it is great to be able to recruit nationally and land someone like myself,” Corker said.

While Corker made his decision to commit to Texas Tech his mother Melvina was right there with him. We spoke with Melvina and asked her what she thought about Corker decision,” I feel great about him choosing Texas Tech. They are a very good academic school. We liked the fact that Texas Tech graduated 80% of their athletes. We really liked the coaching staff at Texas Tech. Their coaching staff made me feel comfortable to sending my son away to college,” Melvina Said.

With Shawn going away to school it was not an easy decision for Melvina,”Not at all. Shawn is my only child but once we went on the visit and I saw how they took care of other players on the team it made the decision that much easier” She also had the opportunity to speak to coach Leach here is what he had to say to Melvina,”He was very excited about Shawn coming to Texas Tech. He is an intelligent coach. I liked the fact that he had a law degree. On our visit all he ever discussed was academics. Football was rarely ever discussed. Coach Leach also told me that my son will graduate with a degree from Texas Tech,” She said.

So now that Shawn committed to Texas Tech here is how Melvina felt,” I am very proud of my son. He has worked hard and I know he will continue to work hard to have success at Tech”.

[...] I was beginning to get a bit worried about whether or not a receiver was going to pull the trigger on Texas Tech, but Captain Mike Leach’s patience paid off, quite nicely I might add.  In any event, I don’t know whether or not Leach get’s fired up about anything, but according to Corker, he was excited about his commitment: [...]
