Post Season Top 100-Florida

By Charles Fishbein on Friday January 27, 20120

Johnson holds top spot!

During the course of a year, Elite Scouting Services has the pleasure of watching hundreds and hundreds of football players perform live at camps, combines, 7-on-7 events, practices and games, and not only affords the opportunity to evaluate their talent, but also have a great feel for character.

As college scholarships are becoming tougher to attain, there is more effort put into finding about the athlete. Character makes or breaks college football programs, and that is why watching the same film that everyone has access to is no longer something colleges are concerned with.

This year’s top 100 in the Class of 2012 represents the very character and athletic ability that gives schools such as Alabama. LSU, etc. that elite crop of student athletes.

Here is a look, after nearly 24 months of watching this class perform at every event, is the top 100 to end the year:

Chase Bender makes his decision: “I am going to Colgate”

By Charles Fishbein on Tuesday January 24, 20120

Bender ends up at Colgate!

One of the most underrated prospects in Broward County this past season was Chase Bender. The senior quarterback from Cardinal Gibbons measures in at 6’3, 195 pounds. Bender not only has the physical talent to play college football, he gets it done off the field. Where Bender excelled the most was in the classroom. He carried a 4.2 GPA and scored a 28 on the ACT. Bender is a true student athlete. ESS had the opportunity to interview Bender. We asked Bender why he chose Colgate, what other schools were in the mix for his services, if players like Jason Garrett and Ryan Fitzpatrick motivate him to possibly one day play in the NFL or end up a coach, how long he expects to wait his turn before playing and much more.

Lane pulls the trigger for Gators!

ESS has followed Adam Lane since he was a freshman at Winter Haven Sr. High. The brother of DC Jefferson who has played his college football at Rutgers University, Lane has been quite impressive as a potential BCS prospect. Lane came to the ESS combine two years ago and was one of the top young players in Florida. He once again showed well this past year and started to move up further on our radar. After being offered by University of Florida, Lane took a visit to Gainesville. The talented junior running back decided to end his recruitment and commit to the Gators. By Charles Fishbein on Monday January 16, 20120

Ferguson scores twice in final high school game!

This past Friday night some of the top players from both Dade and Broward got together at Sun-Life Stadium to play the annual All-Star game. The offensive MVP was Garrett Fortner of Miami Columbus. The defensive MVP was Southwest Sr. High defensive back Stephen Meighan. He had two interceptions. One of the interceptions went back for a touchdown. The other interception stopped another drive where Broward was going in for a score. If Broward County had been able to pull off the win Justin Ferguson would have taken home one of the MVP awards. The Flanagan standout had two touchdown receptions. These were just some of the prospects that stood out on Friday Night.

By Charles Fishbein on Wednesday January 4, 20120

Daquan Randall recently changed his commitment to Western Kentucky!

Every year Florida produces close to 400 prospects who end up at D1 programs. That includes prospects who end up going to junior college before ending up at a D1 school. With a month remaining before national signing day there are 193 prospects at this time that have pulled the trigger. We expect that number to grow over the final month as some of the top prospects which include Tracy Howard (Miramar), Leonard Williams (Mainland), Avery Young (PB Gardens), Nelson Agholor (Berkeley Prep), Deon Bush (Columbus)and Tyriq McCord (Tampa Jefferson) have to commit. Here is a complete list of players who have pledged their commitments to their future school. Let us remind you that many of these prospects that have committed are likely to choose a different school on National Signing Day.

By Charles Fishbein on Saturday December 31, 20110

Sammy Watkins takes home Freshman Offensive MVP!

When the final rankings came out for the 2012 class it was obvious that not only was there a ton of top end talent but the class was also very deep. The top spot went to Nick O’Leary but there were plenty of prospects in the top ten who you could argue last year were just as good. Sammy Watkins was the offensive MVP of this class as he finished with over 1150 yards and 11 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball it was Aaron Lynch who took the top spot. Lynch finished with 33 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. There were plenty of other top performances and ESS will go over each one.

Under the radar: Andrew Cuero-South Miami Class of 2012

By Charles Fishbein on Saturday December 24, 20110
Cuero one of the unsung hero's for South Miami!

Cuero looks to make his mark!

When you look at the job Lamont Green did this past season at South Miami, you could argue for him being named head coach of the year in Florida. Green took a program that was irrelevant the past few years and got them to the playoffs. Green did have some help with guys like AJ Leggett leading the way but that still should not take away from his accomplishment this season. That being said one of the players that also helped Green achieve his success was Andrew Cuero. The talented two way standout is never talked about in recruiting circles. That should change over the next month as Cuero had a great senior season. ESS will break down the talented athlete and give you insight into what to expect once in college.

Tremaine looking to make an impact in All-Star Game!

It’s a game that had set standards for post season high school football all-star games. It was the blueprint for so many others to follow. Dade vs. Broward. A game, for over 16 years, that truly showcased the talent in prospect-rich South Florida.

Over the years, the Miami-Dade vs. Broward game produced dozens who went on to star in college, and then into the NFL. It was a game that became a January ritual for nearly 100 of the most talented Dade and Broward athletes.

Throughout the past five years, Tournament of Champions Sports has continued to elevate the game, and this year’s contest has been lifted to a level that nobody has watched before.

The expansion of the Nike Miami-Dade vs. South Florida Challenge, along with moving the game to Traz Powell Stadium on Dec. 23rd at 7:30, are two steps in eventually turning this event into a Dade vs. Florida event.
